Privacy Policy

Thank you for using DagM8™, Our privacy policy is to foster your understanding of what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. Because we’re an internet company, some concepts following below are a bit technical, but we’ve worked hard to explain things in as simple and clear way as we can. We welcome your questions and comments on this policy.

What information do we collect? We collect information in two ways:

1. When you give information to us or give us permission to obtain it.

When you sign up for or use our DagM8 products, you voluntarily give us specific information. This includes your name, email address you sign up with, your profile photo, comments, suggestions, likes, and any other information you provide to us. When you’re using DagM8 on your mobile device, you can also choose to provide us with your location data.

You also may give us permission to access your information in other services. For example, when you link your Facebook or Twitter account to DagM8, you may allow us to obtain information from those accounts (i.e., your friends or contacts). The information we obtain from those other services often depends on your settings or their privacy policies, so please check to understand what those are.

2. We also get technical information when you use our products or use websites or apps that have or allow DagM8 features.

These days, whenever you use a website, mobile application, or other Internet service, certain information is nearly always created and recorded automatically as part of ongoing basic functionality. The same is true when you use our DagM8 products. Here are some types of information we collect:

Log Data. When you use DagM8 or go to a webpage or use an app allowing DagM8 features, our servers automatically record information (“log data”) including information that your browser sends out whenever you visit a website or your mobile app sends as you use it. Your log data may include your Internet Protocol address, the address of web pages you visit, your browser type and settings, when (date and time) you make a request, how you used DagM8, and cookie data.

Cookie data. Not just hand-held bite-size snacks these days. Depending on how you’re accessing and using our DagM8 products, we may use “cookies” (a small text file your computer sends every time you visit our DagM8 website; your cookies are unique to your DagM8 account and your browser), or similar tags to record your log data. We use a couple cookie types: “session” cookies which last until you close your browser, or “persistent” cookies which last until you or your browser delete them. Some cookies store your language preferences or other DagM8 settings so you don‘t need to put them in every time you use or visit DagM8. Some cookies help us identify your DagM8 account including your personal information and the email address you gave us; other cookies don’t.

Device Information. In addition to log in data we also collect information about the device you’re using DagM8 on, including brand and model of your device, screen size and orientation, which operating system you’re using, your device settings, other unique device identifiers, and any crash data. Whether we collect some or all of this information often depends on what information you have allowed us to keep in the past, your device type that you’re using and its settings. Depending on whether you’re using an Apple iPhone or Mac, or a PC, or an Android phone or another tablet or device, different kinds of information is available. This information is often key to making DagM8 work well. You can learn more about what information your device makes available by checking the policies of your device manufacturer or software provider.

How do we use the information we collect?

We use the information we collect to make our DagM8 products, make them better, develop new products and functions, and better protect DagM8 and you, our users. One area of interest is how often people use two different versions of a product, which can help us understand which version works better or other preferences.

We also use information we collect from you to better customized your content:

Suggesting people, places, subjects or sites you might like or are relevant to your searches or work. For example, if you’ve searched for or your Dag-group has indicated art history or softball or anthropology (or any particular area of study) is of interest, DagM8 may suggest other similar sites, boards, discussions, people or places that are relevant or you might enjoy;

Showing you offers or ads you might enjoy or be interested in.

Send you updates (as when a certain activity takes place, or comments are posted, or what is happening with your friends and study group on DagM8), call attention to relevant postings, newsletters, marketing information or other material you may find interesting. An example might include sending you weekly updates on information you’ve indicated you or your group have an interest in, depending on your email notification settings. In this case you can change or stop updates anytime you want by updating your account settings, or through other settings or links we may provide.

Help you find classmates and friends on DagM8, or them find you. For example, if you sign up using a Facebook account, we may help you find other Facebook friends and students on DagM8 when you first sign in to DagM8, or let them do the same. Or, we may allow people to search for your account on DagM8 using your email address. Again, you can change your account settings.

Respond to any questions or comments you may post.

Information we collect may be “personally identifiable” (meaning it could specifically identify you as a unique person) or “non-personally identifiable” (meaning it can’t be tied specifically to identify you). We use both types of information, and combine both types as previously described. We may use or store information wherever DagM8 can be found, including countries other than yours.

What choices do you have about your information?

Our goal is to make DagM8 a tool and network you trust and enjoy, which drives our giving you meaningful choices over your information. With your DagM8 account, many choices are controlled by your account settings, or are built directly into DagM8 functionality. You can:

Access and change your profile page information at any time, allow your profile page to be available to search engines, or choose if others can find your DagM8 account using your email address;

Link or unlink your DagM8 account as you want from an account on another service (e.g., Facebook or Twitter). Some services (like Facebook) also allow you to choose to make your DagM8 activity visible or not to that service.

Create or be added to a private group. Your private groups are visible to you and the other participants within your specific group, and any participant may choose to make the contents of what your group posts available to others. For example, another group member may invite someone else to the group, make the group available to an app they use to view DagM8, or even just take an image from the group’s postings or board and email it to their friends. For more information about private groups, please visit our Help Center.

Choose how your DagM8 study-groups, teams and groups of friends will share information with you from off-DagM8 websites or apps by customizing your settings. You can also control how your DagM8 account uses off-DagM8 data to tailor your experiences by visiting your account settings and updating your preferences.

Also, we support the “Do Not Track” browser setting; learn more about how it affects our collection and use of off-DagM8 data.

Close your DagM8 account at any time. When you close your account, we’ll deactivate it and remove you from your DagM8 groups and contacts. We may retain archived copies of your information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes (including helping to limit fraud and spam).

In addition to the examples above, other choices will evolve and be offered that you can learn more about anytime in our DagM8 Help Center.

You may have control choices available to you through your device or software you use when you access DagM8. Examples include:

The browser you use often offers you controls over cookies or other types of local data storage;
Your mobile device may offer you choices how and when location or other data is shared with us or other sites.
To learn more, please contact the manufacturer of your device, or reference the information provided by your device or software provider.

How do we share the information we collect?

DagM8 is a tool for students and friends to study better and have more fun with each other. When you create study groups, teams or groups of friends who share other interests, anyone in your DagM8 group can view them. You may also create a profile page for yourself or your group and include information others can view - in and outside of DagM8. Other limited times where we may share your personal information include:

When we have your consent. This includes sharing information with other services (like Facebook or Twitter) when you’ve chosen to link to your DagM8 account to those services or publish your DagM8 activity with them. You can choose to have your DagM8 activity visible to Facebook or Twitter.

We may employ third-parties (companies or individuals) to process personal information on our behalf based on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy. For example, we may share data with a security consultancy to help improve our ability to identify spam, protect Dagmates from outside interference, or with our bookkeepers to ensure we’re keeping the appropriate records. We may ask third-party providers to collect information on our behalf. Information about the providers we use will be update in our Help Center.

If we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a legal request, law or regulation; to protect the safety, rights, or property of the public, any person, or DagM8; or to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues.

We may engage in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, dissolution, reorganization, or similar evolution, transaction or proceeding involving the transfer of the information described in this Policy.

We want our DagM8 community to be better served in evolving ways, which may also include sharing aggregated or non-personally identifiable information with our partners or others. For example, we may tell a business how DagM8 groups are using their business or service, or how they might better serve or attract more Dagg’in mates DAGM8 users. DagM8 is an active social network focused on doing more, learning more, having more fun. If there is a way we can serve you, individually or as a group better, we invite you to let us know; we welcome your insights and thoughts.

DagM8 is not meant to be used by nor is it for any children under 13. If you learn any minor child has used DagM8, or if your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately.

If you continue using DagM8 after any changes are in effect, you agree to the revised policy. If the changes are significant, we may provide more prominent notice or obtain your consent as required by law.
